Why a coach?

Oh, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person; having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but to pour them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.
- George Eliot

Some people can cut their own hair. I can't. I go to a barber. Some people can fix their own cars. I can't. I take mine to a mechanic.

And I imagine, some people can coach themselves. I can't. So I go to someone who helps me in that area (in my case, the same person for the last 20 years).

Why?

When it comes to my self and my dreams, I want someone with me as I navigate the course. Most important for me, my coach listens. She listens to my ideas so that she can give back to me—sometimes in other words—what I'm saying. Hearing my thoughts reflected back surprises me at times, but it allows me to see and hear them more clearly.

Why else would you take on a coach?

Your coach isn't emotionally tied to your dreams, and can help you examine them objectively. Coaches provide perspective so that you can see the big picture, and focus, so that you don't get lost in it.

Good coaches concentrate on clarifying results, and on organizing your life so that it constitutes the path of least resistance to your goals. A good coach keeps you in balance and unsticks you when you're stuck.

And when you declare your results, and set your plan with all the pieces in place, your coach supports you with reminders, keeping you on the path to what you've chosen.

Ask yourself...

  • What kind of attention am I paying to what really matters to me? Do I need to take some time to re-evaluate where I am?
  •
  • What can I do to make sure that I'm making all the progress that I could be making? Do I have my finger on the pulse of everything that has my attention?

  •  What areas in my life seem flat? Career and business? Personal growth and development? Health? Relationships? Do I have balance?

  • What else do I want to do with my talents and abilities? Is there some dream of mine that needs attending to?

  • What kind of support would be best for me for my initiatives? Would some kind of coaching fit into my life?

  • How does my current system of organization help or hinder me in going after what I want? Do I spend too much time reacting to things coming at me, or buried in details?

You're the perfect coaching client if you...

  • ...see life as an adventure to be lived passionately
  • ...love learning (especially about yourself and what's possible for you)
  • ...place a premium on growth and development
  • ...want to get un-stuck in some important area
  • ...have a big challenge facing you

  • ...are undertaking a new initiative
  • ...want to organize your life
  • ...are open to receiving support as you accomplish what's important to you
  • ...long for better life balance
  • ...want clarity around what's important to you and what you can do about it
